Where to repair a laptop in Singapore
Four options, and which one fits your problem and your budget.
You have four options in Singapore: the brand's own service centre, a repair chain with many outlets, a specialist data or board-level lab, or an independent shop like mine at Sim Lim. Each is right for a different problem. Here is how to choose.
Still under warranty? Go to the brand
If your laptop is in warranty or covered by a recall, use the brand's service centre first, it is free there. The trade-off is time: authorised centres can take a week or two, and they often charge a diagnostic fee if you decide not to proceed.
Out of warranty: chain vs independent
A chain has many outlets and fixed menus, convenient but usually pricier. An independent shop like mine is one person who does the whole job, lower cost, same-day on common repairs, and you deal with the owner directly. For a screen, battery, keyboard, upgrade or a machine that will not start, an independent is usually the better value.
When you need a lab
For a physically failed hard drive with no backup, or liquid damage deep in a MacBook logic board, a cleanroom data-recovery lab is the safe call, and it costs more. I will tell you honestly when a job is beyond shop-level and refer you, with the price explained first, rather than gamble with your data.
By problem, in short
Cracked screen, dead battery, dead keyboard, slow machine, won't turn on: an independent shop, same-day. MacBook out of AppleCare: an independent Mac repair, see my Apple Mac page. Dead drive with no backup: a lab. Buying or selling instead of fixing: a used-laptop shop, which I also am.
